Video Modeling of Social Language

A couple of young, fellow Speech-Language Pathologists and I met today to make videos. We each had a social language topic to model via video for our students. The topics included playing nicely with others, saying no to group work, and saying no to strangers. We thought that we could collaborate and share the videos with others.

Our students express themselves inappropriately, which causes arguments and dangerous consequences. We wanted our video clips to contrast positive and negative consequences of inappropriate and appropriate social language skills. So, we contrasted the inappropriate and appropriate way to express one’s feelings.

When creating title slides during video editing, I noticed a difficulty I have with generating kid friendly language. I want the language to be economical and understandable, but it’s not easy. I hope the language ultimately used adequately conveys the intended message.
